Resident Evil (2026) Movie Review

Is the new Resident Evil reboot dead on arrival? Or the life of the party?

What’s it about?

A courier is tasked with making a delivery to Racoon City Hospital, unaware an apocalyptic breakout has occurred.

What did we think?

Anthony Sherratt says: Instead of taking the tired and worn path of having a hero archetype wade into a never-ending wall of monsters, Zach Creeger (Weapons, Barbarian) has instead chosen to take the established universe and story and insert a true Everyman asking the audience how they would react. So instead of quips and courage we’re served up the bumbling ineptitude and genuine fear of a real person in a horrific situation.

This leads to a genuinely intriguing scenario where you’re feeling less like you’re playing the Resident Evil game but that captures the true spirit of the games much better for it.

Creeger’s choice to also embrace the comedy is inspired and sets this apart from the other seven installments of the Resident Evil franchise, reminding us that horror doesn’t have to be serious to be enjoyable.

This polished and truly entertaining piece is not only the best Resident Evil adaptation but one of the best video game adaptations of all time despite not following a video game story directly. In fact, perhaps it’s because of his focusing on the game’s universe rather than the game’s story that Creeger’s star continues to shine incredibly brightly. He’s now 3 from 3 for great films.

bloody fun
A wonderfully fresh perspective on a tired adaptation franchise will leave the viewer feeling entertained as well as frightened. Horrifyingly good fun.
