What did we think

Lord of the Rings for kids.

Sure we have kid-movie fantasies like Frozen, but now we have something that celebrates the style and culture of it; with ample references to D&D and all things incredibly nerdy.

Being a journey/road movie, you’d expect all the usual tropes and techniques involving mishap, but Onward fleshes it out with surprisingly un-cringie plot development and decent character tension. As if Disney/Pixar needed to further prove they could make us all feel - HARD.

I do KINDA feel like the whole, “you had what you needed all along” moral of the story is a touch cliché and unsatisfying, but hey, we’re still in kids movie territory. I did cry laughing at one point - so it’s honestly pretty dope.

    4/5 Stars.
