The United States Vs. Billie Holiday movie review

A bio-pic with passion

What’s it about?

The Federal Bureau of Narcotics launches an undercover sting operation against jazz singer Billie Holiday, led by the agent with whom she had a tumultuous affair.

What did we think?

Johanna Lyon says: I was done with bio-pics. We get it! Singers do drugs.

But honey, this movie is so much more than that. Andra Day is flawless as Billie, an entirely unselfish showing of her true strength.

This film, like the woman, becomes more than just her story. The United States Vs Billie Holiday speaks for (as she was heralded) “the voice of a people” with its critical message clearly, fiercely and directly correlating with current racial hate. 9/10
