Ready or not 2: Here I Come movie review

Did we count to ten?

What’s it about?

A sequel to READY OR NOT where a bride’s seemingly simple family game on her wedding night turns deadly.

What did we think?

Anthony Sherratt says: Picking up immediately where the original film ends, the sequel to this highly entertaining sleeper hit doesn’t waste much time setting up the premise or getting into the action. It briefly lets us know there are mega-wealthy families who run the world and that she has inadvertently set in motion a leadership spill and now they’re all out to kill her.

Rather than just repeat the first movie however, they’ve added depth by introducing an estranged sister (played by the talented Kathryn Newton) who also gets sucked into being hunted. Cue hi-jinx, action and gruesome deaths as well as a simply hilarious fight between Grace and a jilted bride that I refuse to spoil.

The cast is simply stellar with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nestor Carbonell and Elijah Woods all putting on wicked turns with Woods particularly entertaining as a satanic lawyer (is that a tautology?).

Despite the extra trimmings the sequel falls down a bit towards the end with a second half that drags and detracts somewhat from the earlier action. Still, the extra lore was a bold and welcome swing and Samara Weaving is simply incredible in a film that will have you chuckling and wincing in equal measure.

It’s an entertaining addition to the first film that just falls a little short with some poor editing and excessively slow build to the end. Still it’s fun and gory and that’s all we really wanted.
