A troublemaking but good-hearted foster-child, Billy Batson, is given superpowers by the wizard Shazam; powers which he can activate just by saying the wizard’s name, turning him into muscly superhero Captain Sparklefingers.

What did we think

    Oh man, this was fun.

It doesn’t completely reinvent the superhero wheel, but it is hands down the breeziest, most enjoyable of the DC movies. This is Spider-Man: Homecoming meets Big. Humour and heart, and a touching story about family. Everyone on screen looks like they’re having so much fun gleefully skewering tropes of both superhero and body-swap movies and then sincerely embracing them. And the third act is a blast; I grinned the whole way through.

    I loved it.
