A wealthy crime novelist commits suicide. Or did he? Everyone in the family seems to have something to hide and the knives are well and truly out to get their hands on his fortune.

It's been too long since the last great murder mystery flick (Murder By Death btw), but Rian Johnson delivers a laugh-packed, intriguing whodunit that kept you guessing until the very end - which is incredible when you consider the mystery is solved within the first half hour.

    Or is it?

With more murderous motives than a #LibSpill, more head-scratching twists than a Chubby Checker stomper, and more star-studded suspects than a Hollywood red carpet, the addition of political scaremongering mockery adds an extra unexpected level of enjoyment. 4/5 Stars

Is this what great movies can be now? This eccentric tongue-in-cheek, tragi-comedy? If so, Bloody finally! I feel personally catered to. Send my regards to Hollywood!

With a great blend of modern comedic dialogue with the classic stylistic choices of the Murder Mystery genre, we are pulled in and constantly entertained with Knives Out.

Our detective, Daniel Craig is in this constant masterful play with zany comedy and tense intimidation, which is stylishly balanced by Ana de Armas who plays the naturalistic young nurse whose authentic emotion will be felt by any lucky movie-goer.

Unlike so many of the movies we see, there wasn’t a outstanding performer. The WAY the movie was made was the stand out! The off-beat rhythm, the shot styles and the pronounced quirky direction was all executed alongside a perfect little metaphor for America’s treatment of refugees.

I just bloody loved it. 4.5/5 Stars

Knives Out skillfully manages to be a loving dramedy tribute to our favorite murder mystery tropes a la Agatha Christie, at the same time as completely turning the genre on its head with its clever storytelling format. I don't want to spoil anything, so all I will say is that the cast and performances are top notch, matched by deft writing, smart direction and gorgeous noir-ish cinematography. It's a delight to watch layer upon layer of drama, suspense and surprising laughs unfold. 4.5/5 Stars
