With so much more heart than your average Christmas movie, Happiest Season manages to traverse really important issues in a comedic yet weighty way without feeling saccharine or trite. I couldn’t remember ever seeing a gay couple in a Christmas movie that wasn’t a token interior decorator or punchline, which makes this movie, where Abby and Harper’s relationship is front and centre and the complex issues about coming out are on show, all the more important. Representation matters. Also Dan Levy is a constant delight.
Small points taken off for how quickly some characters forgave others who were truly awful to them.
