Shelter movie review

Will it leave you feeling the need for sanctuary?

What’s it about?

A former special ops agent is living a reclusive life on a remote island before being he’s forced to look after and defend a teenage girl. He ends up in a running g firefight with MI6.

What did we think?

In the history of cliched action movies this one will certainly be remembered but not in a good way. Yes, the plot is well-worn and heavy-handed but where it truly stands out is in its cliched dialogue. Seriously, it’s so poorly written that even some very talented actors (such as Naomi Ackie and Daniel Mays) are made to look extremely poor at their craft.

I’m not convinced this hasn’t been written by AI as there’s no natural flow and the lines are so painful they can only be delivered dramatically. Granted we don’t go to action movies for the plot but this one never gives away to anything else interesting let alone impressive action sequences.

Jason Statham fans will probably still see it but I fear even they will regret their life choices leading to this cinema visit. Second-worst film of the past six months.

Just no
Take the dialogue of most action films, pick out the cheesy, OTT lines, blend well and leave out anything that might link things together and you’re left with this painful cliche of a movie.
