WHAT'S IT ABOUT

David Niven Michael Caine Anne Hathaway is a high-end con artist happily plying his her trade in a luxurious European coastal resort town on the French Riviera, until Marlon Brando Steve Martin Rebel Wilson, a low-brow swindler arrives, cramping the home turf criminal’s style. It’s obvious that this town isn’t big enough for two hustlers, so a winner-takes-all challenge decides who gets to stay.

Remember doing charcoal / crayon rubbings when you were a kid? You put a piece of tracing paper over a hard object, and by rubbing gently or with more pressure, you'd end up with an interpretation of the original.

That, my friends, is how this hilarious remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (itself a remake of Bedtime Stories - I kid you not - there's some great history behind these flicks http://mentalfloss.com/article/85884/12-facts-about-dirty-rotten-scoundrels) came to be.

It's not a homage, it's not an original movie, it's practically word for word the Frank Oz classic - and you know what? It's fantastic! There’s even a different joke or two in there to keep you on your toes.

You could complain "oh it's not as good as the original" or you can enjoy it for what it is: a female update of a brilliant classic. Go watch it, laugh a lot, go home, watch the original, laugh again. Everybody's happy!

Except Ruprecht. He could never be happy. Or bettered.
