Deep within Tenet’s lush complexity is a compelling movie struggling to emerge. Great SFX and stunning vistas don’t make a good movie.

If I had a time machine I’d go back and tell Nolan how to fix it. A coherent opening and discernible dialogue would help.

Failing that I’d tell myself to wait for subtitles on Netflix.

There's a fine line between deep, intellectual writing, and pretentiousness. With Tenet, Christopher Nolan straddles the line dipping his toes either side of the line. Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful movie with wonderful imagery and will be enjoyed by most, but despite the high brow discussion surrounding the plot, the story is actually incredibly predictable to anyone familiar with timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly stuff. Well-worth seeing and enjoyable but the early hype is misplaced. 3.2
