Michelle Payne was one of very few women in the sport of men and horses, and the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup. This is the story of her journey (that conveniently ends before the drug inquiry and the horse torture scandal).

This film feels like dozens of different moments from Michelle's life patch-worked together to make it conform to the standard Hollywood fairytale. The underdog rises up against all odds to get her big break. You’ve seen it a billion times. Dialogue clatters out of the screen like a donkey on stilts.

If you are a fan of horse-racing at least in this medium they promise that no animals were harmed, so that’s a nice reason to get behind it.
