A faded television actor and his stunt double strive to achieve fame and success in the film industry during the final years of Hollywood’s Golden Age in 1969 Los Angeles. But did we mention his neighbour is Sharon Tate? And that this is set in the lead up to the infamous helter-skelter moment that shocked the world?

It needs to be said that the things I loved about this film - the in-depth characterisation, the slow build and the deliberate unexpected narrative choice - will be the exact things that others dislike about it. But that's the polarisation that comes with Tarantino. Unexpectedly his ninth feature film is actually, at heart, a love story. More accurately it's a bromance of a symbiotic relationship between a former huge star and his stunt double. All with Charles Manson's cult lurking in the background. It's a masterful telling that never lets you fully settle and leaves you with no idea of the destination but will linger long after the credits roll. It may have less violence than usual but what is there is more impactful because of it. Superb.4.6/5
