What did we think

While fans of the book will enjoy this reasonably satisfying conclusion, those who've not read it might find this new installment a bit repetitive. Chapter Two suffers from the initial decision to split the two movies into different time frames, robbing the audience of a lot of the mystery and exploration. And in its place, we have a seemingly repetitive movie - a strength of the book - that has good production values but is lacking in story. Its bloated running time only emphasises the lack of detailed characterisations though it does at least have a few good scares and tense moments unlike chapter one. The impressive cast produce the goods and make the most of what they're given, and there's enough here for horror fans and diehards to sink their teeth into. 3.5/5
