WHAT'S IT ABOUT
Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever — High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

You would expect the big screen debut of Dora the Explorer to be aimed at young children, however it turns out to be fun for all ages. The first half is very self-aware, over-the-top and even mocks itself before evolving into a more serious adventure. It might fall down a bit with the later puzzles in the final act but the quality cast and fun script make this an adventure that even mum and dad will appreciate. Isabla Moner shine as the naive but competent Dora, Jeff Wahlberg is the perfect straight man as her cousin Diego and Michael Peña... well, he's Michael Peña. Simple holiday fun. 3.7/5
