What did we think

Belfast is a charming little movie with a lot of heart, and is clearly a very personal project from director Kenneth Branagh. While the seriousness of the wider conflict is always present, the story benefits from being shown through the confused and innocent eyes of 9 year-old Buddy. There’s great performances all around and the black and white photography is gorgeous, and the relatively light story doesn’t drag out its welcome. 3.5 / 5 stars
