What’s it about?

When seriously ill teenager Milla falls madly in love with smalltime drug dealer Moses, it’s her parents’ worst nightmare. But as Milla’s first brush with love brings her a new lust for life, things get messy and traditional morals go out the window.

What could easily be yet another cliched sick teenager film turns out to actually be a heartfelt and gloriously honest film about making the most of life. Director Shannon Murphy's decision to avoid leaning on the expected stereotypes works wonderfully as this lovely character piece shines beautifully. One not to be missed.

The first thing you need to know is that Babyteeth is not what you expect. You think you've seen the terminally ill teen movie before but this is quirky and unorthodox. It's also very genuine and almost raw. It subverted my expectations in every way and I loved it. Great characterisation and good for the soul if not a little rough on the heart. 5/5
