It's a wondrous movie with an ok plot, but where it dazzles, boy does it shine. Great acting from an amazing British cast (Richard Madden, Colin Firth, Mark Strong Andrew Scott and Benedict Cumberbatch just to name a few) but the star of the show is undoubtedly the cinematography. Told using just a handful of seamless shots, the true wonder comes from watching a camera follow the soldiers through the trenches, barbed wire, muddy waters and tunnels all seemingly without an edit. There are some but it truly adds to the grim atmosphere and while the story is nothing new, the storytelling from Sam Mendes is incredible. 4.3 / 5
